To keep everybody strictly\non track, SAFe® offers a specific timebox for keeping things well-organized and\nordered. Program Increment (or PI) gives a handy structure for self-managing and\nself-organizing agile teams, which together make up an Agile Release Train\n(ART), to be aligned to the all-company vision and effectively work towards\naccomplishing the set objectives.\n\nTo illustrate how BigPicture can vastly support the execution of a PI, we will\nexamine three of its ceremonies, namely:\n\n * Scrum of Scrums\n * PO SYNC\n * Inspect & Adapt\n\n\nPART 3: JIRA & BIGPICTURE SAFE® CONFIGURATION\n\nBigPicture integrates with Jira. To make your SAFe® planning and execution\nexperience as smooth as possible, you need to set up the PPM app and make sure\ndata flows correctly between the two apps at all times. Part three of the\ncollection will help you do that.\n\nOn top of setting up your environment, you will also learn how to create\nSAFe®-friendly structures, add and manage teams\n, plan\ntasks on a Program Board, and manage dependencies\n.\n\nLast but not least, the guide will dive into the modules you’ll need to\nimplement SAFe®.\n\nFill out the form to get the full collection for free!\n\nDownload the guide","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/7880b36e3672d6ab3c08186d5ed1b4b7.jpg","id":"guide-and-ebook_kpzyh0djfih6mvqmrzax99zv","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T12:14:05.906Z","slug":"implement-safe-with-bigpicture","solutions":[],"title":"Implementing SAFe® with BigPicture Full Collection","topics":["SAFe®"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Lisa Teves","collection_type":"guide-and-ebook","description":"SUMMARY\n\nHybrid project management has been around for a while, but organizations still\nstruggle to use it effectively. He\nand his team are responsible for several critical agency operations, including\noverseeing the day-to-day management of the agency’s several large Jira\ninstances with hundreds of users and projects.\n\nBeing a busy admin within a large organization, Peter knew he needed to automate\nsome of the more tedious, repetitive tasks to save time and scale the agency’s\ncritical processes.\n\n\nAUTOMATING USER AUTHORIZATION\n\nOne of those repetitive tasks was a complex user authorization process that\nPeter’s team had to complete manually each time a team member needed access to\nvarious parts of the system. \n\nPeter automated this process by first creating Jira user groups with specific\npermissions and then using two Bob Swift CLI apps – Jira CLI\n and Run\nCLI Actions in Jira\n\n– to automatically assign users to the appropriate groups.\n\nThis approach took a repetitive and highly-requested task off the team’s plate,\nfreeing up bandwidth for other valuable projects.\n\n\nMERGING JIRA INSTANCES\n\nPeter also leaned on the CLI’s automation capabilities when his agency needed to\nmerge two Jira instances (B & C) and their 270+ projects into another existing\nJira instance (A). Manually merging the instances would take a long time and\ncould lead to costly errors.\n\nPeter looked into other solutions to automate this migration, like Configuration\nManager for Jira, but ultimately decided to use Jira CLI since his company\nalready owned the app, and he felt very comfortable using it. He used the CLI to\nexecute 1000’s of commands to create empty project configurations in the\ndestination instance A, effectively preparing the instance to receive the data\nfrom instances B & C.\n\nStarting with instance B migration, Peter reran the build of the shell every\nday, progressively getting to the point where he could start the data import.\nThe process allowed him to thoroughly test the 130 projects that were going to\nbe migrated from instance B to the destination instance A.\n\nOnce Peter was happy with the build’s state, he applied it to instance A and\nimported instance B’s project data.\n\nHe repeated the process to merge instance C into instance A, completing the\nmigration.\n\nWhile this was a complex project, the assurance that the team was getting\nprecisely what it wanted, along with the ability to repeat the process many\ntimes before committing to the final build, made the project worth it. According\nto Peter:\n\n> “The whole process was being done in my spare time, which means I can relax\n> and deploy things as quickly or as slowly as I need. Personally, I don’t think\n> I could even estimate the massive amount of time I am being saved by using\n> this approach. Just the build of a single project shell manually would take\n> days. Using this method, I rebuild my projects every day in about 2 hours.”\n> \n> Peter Macdonald, Jira Systems Administrator\n\nPeter is an excellent example of a maker who embraces the power of automation to\nturn manual tasks like user management and migrations into streamlined,\nefficient processes. Like many large companies, Slack was\nfaced with the decision to build or buy software.\n\nSlack had been using a homegrown Jira to Slack integration called “Jira Tools,”\nbut the required maintenance and development soon became cumbersome and\nexpensive. Slack had to decide if they would continue to further invest in their\ninternal tool, or look for an outside solution.\n\n\nBUILD VS BUY\n\nThe team at Slack did an ROI analysis on whether to keep dumping resources into\ntheir Jira integration, or buy a software solution. Their homegrown solution\ncalled “Jira Tools” was originally built as a catch all software that solved\nmany business needs, but as Slack scaled, it became an unstaffed burden.\n\nThey ultimately decided to decouple the tools and search for solutions that best\nfit the individual needs of each line of business.\n\n“In order to clear the road for the tools depreciation, we had to find a\ncomparable replacement for the plethora of tools built under the “jira tools”\numbrella,” said Nick Matute, Technical Program Manager at Slack. The Slack team\nhad to quickly find a solution that performed the plethora of tasks their old\n“Jira Tools” did while also staying up to speed with the latest features in\nSlack.\n\n“When searching for a solution, we came across Appfire and they were the only\nsolution we were able to find that met all of our requirements. It even had some\nadditional nifty functionality that exceeded our expectations,” said Matute.\n\n\nIMPROVED EXPERIENCE, EXPANDED FEATURES\n\nThe Slack team ultimately decided to ditch their homegrown tool and implement\nAppfire’s Slack Integration+ [/products/slack-integration-plus] as their Slack\nto Jira integration tool of choice. “We needed something that could stand up\nagainst our internally built tools and provide our users with the crisp and\nreliable experience that matched what they were used to,” said Matute.\n\nWhile originally aiming to just replace their previous functionality, the Slack\nteam quickly realized that the new software provided even more features.\n\nCUSTOMIZABLE NOTIFICATIONS\n\n“Not only does Slack Integration+\n provide the Jira\nnotifications that we needed, but they’re even more customizable than what we\nhad before,” said Matute.\n\nThe Slack team loves being able to customize their Jira notifications within\nSlack. With the ability to adjust advanced notification settings to fit each\nindividual’s needs, they were able to minimize distractions and boost\nproductivity.\n\nADVANCED CHANNEL-BASED SETTINGS\n\n“The channel notifications that can be customized with JQL are especially\npowerful and a real game changer”, said Maute.\n\nSlack utilizes advanced channel-based settings in Slack Integration+\n, which allows them to\ntoggle to JQL-mode. This lets them to further streamline their workflow in Slack\nby providing granular control with JQL syntax. With this setting, Slack can\nenter any valid JQL syntax into the first text box to immediately pull up the\nissue.\n\nISSUE UNFURLS\n\n“One of the other important cases we needed a functional replacement for was\nissue unfurls, which can be done by adding the bot to a channel today”, said\nMatute.\n\nhas been able to gain even more insight about Jira issues by using in-channel\nissue unfurls right in Slack. This ability to view, manage and close Jira issues\nfrom Slack has allowed them to stop switching context, save time and keep their\nteam on the same page.\n\nIn an effort to further maximize Slack’s time-saving benefits, the Appfire team\nbegan working closely with them to expand issue unfurls to become “global\nunfurls,” which will allow Jira issues to unfurl anywhere in Slack - even if the\nbot is not added to that channel.\n\nSCHEDULED REPORTS\n\n“We’ve also started leaning into scheduled reports to keep track of our largest\nand most impactful projects across the firm,” said Matute.\n\nThrough scheduled reports, Slack users can set up customized alerts that the bot\nwill send based on specific triggers like:\n\n * Daily report of tickets assigned to me\n * Report of overdue tickets for my project\n * Project summary report into scrum channel\n\nThe reports can be set up at any variety of timing based on the users needs.\nThrough scheduled reports, Slack is able to speed projects along by avoiding\nmissed next steps.\n\n\nRESULTS\n\nSlack effectively shifted from maintaining a costly and antiquated internal tool\nto outsourcing their Jira to Slack integration with Slack Integration+\n, which resulted in better\nfunctionality and improved performance.\n\n> “We officially rolled out in June and have seen steady adoption and numerous\n> use cases crop up since...we look forward to growing alongside this amazing\n> partner.”\n> \n> Nick Matute, Slack\n\nKEY RESULTS:\n\n * 300 Slack employees use Slack Integration+\n \n * The bot is installed in 200 channels (and growing)\n * Up to $1.19 M in potential annual savings*\n\n\nABOUT SLACK\n\nSlack has transformed business communication. To support this, the team develops and\nmanages various documentation, including agile best practices, how-to guides,\nand global metrics.\n\nTo ensure the knowledge base information is always up-to-date and approved for\npublication, Adidas Group installed Comala Document Management for Confluence.\nUsing this app, the team was able to maintain control through approval\nworkflows. The Adidas transformation team opted to use a basic workflow that\nensured key employee-facing pages had been reviewed and approved for\npublication. Any updates to those pages would trigger the workflow to start\nagain before updated content was published. \n\nComala Document Management is ideal for knowledge base management because it\nprovides the control needed to meet high-quality standards and limit the spread\nof misinformation. Whether your team contains hundreds of members, like Adidas\nGroup, or is a lean start-up, the app allows team members to easily manage the\ngovernance of your Confluence content by assigning permissions, page reviewers,\napprovers, and e-signature requirements.\n\nTo learn more about Comalatech’s family of apps designed for Confluence and\nJira, visit the Atlassian Marketplace. \n\nConfluence alone isn’t built for formal reviews or approvals. We spoke with Professor\nThorsten A. Kern, the initiator of the lecture at the Institute, on how the use\nof BigPicture software came to the realization in the academic sphere. We\ndiscovered what values convinced him to roll out the use of BigPicture to his\nstudents and what exciting projects are being developed with the help of our\nflagship app.\n\n\nTHE PROFESSOR\n\nThorsten A. Kern has a wealth of experience in technology and mechatronics.\nHowever, with the transition to academia, he realized how beneficial it would be\nfor students and future project managers to acquire skills in utilizing software\nsolutions in the early phases of delivering projects. Consequently, how those\nskills will lead to the more efficient development of future complex projects.\n\n\nFIRST ENCOUNTER WITH BIGPICTURE\n\nWhile working for Continental, Professor Kern was responsible for the company’s\nHead-up-Display team, leading all engineers. In this area, he was a part of the\nInterior organization, a cluster for any view machinery, such as head, panel,\nand touch controls and displays. The process of developing those components was\ndivided into 20% mechanic (including optics), 10% electronic, 20% system\nengineering and 50% software. Making it the total of hours spent on projects. \n\n\nREALIZING THE NEED FOR A SOFTWARE SOLUTION\n\nBefore coming to this arrangement, Professor Kern had been already closely\nlinked to people responsible for mechanical design. Complex mechanical systems\nrequired a variety of technical checkpoints and were subject to continuously\nshifting change factors. He realized there was a demand for a systematic\napproach to tasks in a more documented manner. The moment he switched into the\nmanagement role, he quickly decided to extend what was already established, to\nthis point, in software development to other disciplines such as mechanical\nengineering, technical engineering, and of course, optical engineering.\n\nAs a result, the company started to create an extension to the ecosystem and\nplan complete projects with Jira. As it was a cross-team assignment for system\nengineers and project managers, this implied the necessity of visualizing timing\nand working with time. The tool which was available in Continental’s ecosystem\nbut at this stage not so much used cross-disciplinary and would comply was\nBigPicture.\n\n\nBIGPICTURE – A TOOL TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS\n\nBy taking what was proposed, a process to plan some more complex development\nbecame possible. BigPicture turned out to be an excellent mediator between the\nproject management’s Microsoft Project and the world of issues and tasks from\nJira. It combined planning, integration and created a level of hierarchy for\nproject leads. Project Managers could easily steer the projects and leave behind\nExcel sheets. BigPicture succeeded in enabling a direct exchange between\nengineering tasks and project-management and system-engineering planning.\n\nThanks to BigPicture, most interdependencies were documented, which was\nspecifically relevant for the optics design flow. The Optical engineer has to\ntarget the look and feel of the picture in correlation with the optical\nfunctions that need to be implemented for the customer. Many factors need to be\nclosely monitored during this process. For example, if the windshield needs to\nbe changed, as the car is not yet completely fixed, then there is a cascade of\nthings that need to be cost-checked before new alternative solutions are\nadopted. Basically, change is inevitable in all disciplines of mechanics.\n\nA single change triggers a huge action list, and this was all implemented within\nBigPicture to follow the change accordingly. These were complex projects that\nneeded to be managed, and finding a single source of truth for everyone was a\nvery beneficial outcome that allowed teams to meet all deadlines and react fast.\nThis is how the team benefited from the app. \n\n> At my time, BigPicture was a key for planning and the projects we were moving\n> to this platform benefitted from the transparency.\n> For sure my team at Continental continued to use it and potentially even\n> improved it.\n> \n> Professor Kern\n\n\nBIGPICTURE’S TRANSITION INTO ACADEMIA\n\nWith the opportunity to switch into academia, Professor Kern had an amazing\nchance to disseminate knowledge, experience, and good practice gained in his\nprevious experience in the field of Project Management. Thus, he established a\nlecture “Applied Design Methods in Mechanics”. The program only lasts one term;\nhowever, it enables students to go through the complete project management\nprocess, from planning stages through completion. The main goal of the lecture\nis to educate students, how a technical project is solved.\n\n\nTHE INITIATION OF THE PROJECT\n\nAt the beginning of each term, students are given a brief of a project. Some\ninformation is willingly missing, and some errors might be implemented into the\ndescription of a project. This forces students to analyze the whole project,\nstructure the composition, arrange a complete project planning, evaluate the\ndecision-making process, and return with appropriate solutions.\n\nStudents are split into teams to keep the momentum of competition growing and\nalso to allow the possibility of different solutions to emerge. Essentially, the\nacademic team and the Professor are monitoring the development progress while\nlecturing and guiding through. After all initial decisions are made, students\nare forced to do the proper project planning. They need to define their roles in\nproject management, the scope each individual is responsible for, and align\ntasks between each other.\n\n\nINCORPORATING SOFTWARE INTO THE PROJECT\n\nFrom the beginning of the project, students are motivated to document everything\nin Confluence, as the next step is to arrange the planning in Jira. The\nassumption is to work with Gantt charts showcasing dependencies, build the\nproject hierarchy and assign roles. This is where they intend to use BigPicture.\nThey got a complete crash course on the app, and are explained how to work with\nagile methodologies; however, they are not forced to do so, as they primarily\nuse Gantt and Scope modules in BigPicture.\n\n> Identifying and defining tasks is pretty easy for students, and much better\n> than I originally expected. The biggest challenge though, is time planning and\n> alignment between people. Also, taking care of interdependencies between\n> technical parts they are not aware of, from the most basic to more advanced\n> ones in electronics. Without a doubt, I can state that students understand a\n> massive benefit of using software such as BigPicture to do the planning and\n> proper alignment.\n> \n> Professor Kern\n\nAlthough these tools are oversized for this task,  using them enables students\nto get used to the professional environment, which later they will find in any\nindustry. At this early stage, they will gain experience with tools and\nunderstand how to deal with assignments in real-life scenarios, allowing them to\nexploit in the future. \n\n\nPROJECTS DEVELOPED WITH THE USE OF BIGPICTURE\n\n\nOCEANOGRAPHIC SENSOR\n\nLast year, the Institute assigned a project to develop an oceanographic platform\nfor sensor technology called Trifter. A football-sized sensor, to be put into\nthe ocean 200m deep, which is designed to measure energy and monitor the\ndynamics of the sea. The project entitled to design a version of this platform\n(sensor) to dive according to the trigger – 3 steps up to 10m,  do the\nmeasurements, and return to the surface. Teams had to develop meaningful ways of\nsolving it on the technical level, like adding weights, log cable, etc., in\nvarious scenarios. Due to the Covid pandemic spread, unfortunately, they\ncouldn’t submit the physical device. However, they provided the Institute with a\ndigital twin, which is a kind of a sophisticated model. In the end, they had to\npresent how it works for external guests from the oceanography society to gain\nfeedback and comments.\n\nAppfire Case Study Hamburg University of Technology\nFigure\n1. Oceanic sensor project in BigPicture.\n\n\nBRAILLE CELL\n\nAt the end of 2021, there is a big conference scheduled to take place in\nHamburg. The conference is focused on haptic-touch solutions. Hence, this year\nstudents were asked to work on a haptic-related topic. The task is to design a\nBraille cell for blind reading. It is about how the students get to a certain result, and not\nessentially the final outcome. Breaking down the process, documenting it, and\nusing the newest software to allow seamless coordination is critical. Besides,\nobserving the final results of projects conducted by groups is really exciting.\n\n\nCONCLUSION AND FUTURE USE OF BIGPICTURE\n\nNeedless to say, we had to ask the Professor if there were any other alternative\nproducts taken into consideration when selecting the software solution for the\nlecture. The answer was: “Of course, there are some alternative tools on the\nmarket which are interesting, however not that suitable to fulfil the needs\nrequired, as BigPicture. Also, the choice is connected with the fact we very\nmuch like using Confluence for the documentation, so we preferred to stay in the\nsame environment of Atlassian Marketplace.”\n\nThe basic methodology of structuring the project stays the same; however, the\ndigital validation is much better now. It’s not only fun but mandatory nowadays.\nThe digital alignment inside the team improves and, in the long run, is much\neasier.\n\nThe future perspective of BigPicture’s growth and availability to integrate with\nmultiple platforms, such as Azure DevOps, Trello, and multiple Jiras, allows\nstudents to get fluency in the tool, which they will eventually use in future\nlive scenarios.\n\nTry BigPicture for free\n","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/8e02eaf13340d1335266f0cf6e08296c.jpg","id":"customer-story_r8ua3lgvfwmkogg5d803d0ns","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T12:28:23.813Z","slug":"bigpicture-at-tuhh","solutions":[],"title":"Fostering innovation: BigPicture at the TUHH’s Institute of Mechatronics in Mechanics","topics":["Gantt","Project Management"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Appfire","collection_type":"customer-story","description":"Unifly is a European software company that streamlines the safe integration of\ndrones into airspace. you know that over 200,000 companies worldwide use Slack? Additionally,\nalmost 80% of these companies are those of Fortune 100. Slack is not only a\ngreat communication app but can also be used in customer service, ticketing, and\ninternal collaboration and is applied in a wide variety of businesses from HR or\nsales, through IT and support, to e-commerce and marketing.\n\nEven though it's a helpful tool, you may still encounter problems like losing\nchats, having to copy and paste information over and over again, transferring\ndata by hand, and having trouble saving significant Slack conversations straight\ninto Jira.\n\nFortunately, there is some good news for Slack users who use Jira or Confluence.\nYou can now easily pull Slack conversations into your Confluence pages and Jira\ntickets using apps like Docs+\n,\nIntegration+\n,\nand HelpDesk+\n,\nso crucial information never gets lost in Slack again.\n\nLet’s explore these apps further.\n\n\nINTEGRATE SLACK AND CONFLUENCE WITH DOCS+\n\nThe two-way integration between Slack and Confluence enabled by Docs+ allows you\nto use Slack to search, view, and share pages. But also save important\ninformation from Slack channels, messages, and threads to pages in your\nConfluence with no need to copy/paste. You can easily view your starred\nConfluence pages in Slack, record conversations, convert Slack meeting notes to\ndocuments or Confluence comments, and receive notifications in Slack when a\ndocument has new comments. Essentially, it allows you to manage your knowledge\nbase directly from Slack. Why is this important? Because switching between apps\ncan reduce productivity by up to 40%!\n\n\n\n\nQUICK HOW-TO GUIDE:\n\nNow that you know that Slack can be used to manage your knowledge base directly\nfrom the app, let’s explore how to do so.\n\nTo get started:\n\n * Firstly, download Docs+\n \n from the Atlassian Marketplace.\n * Install the companion Docs+ Slack App\n .\n * Connect to Docs+ to your Confluence\n \n knowledge-base.\n * Invite the app\n into your\n channels.\n * Use emojis or message actions to capture content\n .\n\nSee it in action:\n\nCAPTURING CONTENT FROM SLACK THREADS WITH THE CAMERA EMOJI.\n\n\n\nContent from Slack being captured into Confluence knowledge base via Docs+ using\nthe book emoji.\n\n\nCAPTURE CONTENT WITH MESSAGE ACTIONS\n\ndocs-plus-help-create.png\n\n\n \n\nCREATE WIKI PAGES FROM SLACK CONVERSATIONS\n\n\n\nNew pages can be made using the Docs+ app, but a new Wiki page can also be\ncreated during this process.\n\n\nTry Docs+ for free\n\n\n\nINTEGRATE SLACK AND JIRA WITH INTEGRATION+\n\nIntegration+ allows you to seamlessly connect to Jira and Slack in order to\nstreamline your workflows and minimize the need to switch between applications.\nIt allows you to view and update Jira issues from Slack directly and customize\nnotifications to your preferences using JQL. You can also create dedicated Slack\nchannels for specific issues, which can result in speeding up resolution times\nby bringing the appropriate people together to quickly resolve issues and swarm\nincidents.\n\nThe ability to create Jira issues from Slack messages, complete with custom\nfields, optimizes convenience and enhances team productivity. Developers can\nsave an estimated two hours a week by cutting down on the time they spend\nswitching between Slack and Jira. This can result in saving, or creating more\ntime for more critical tasks but also leads to considerable cost savings.\n\nHow can you use Integration+ to prevent copying and pasting data between Slack\nand Jira by using the app to capture discussions into your tickets?\n\n\nCAPTURE SLACK THREADS IN JIRA WITH A CAMERA EMOJI.\n\n \n\nGet started:\n\n * Firstly, download Integration+\n \n from the Atlassian Marketplace.\n * Install the companion Integration+ Slack App\n .\n * Connect to Jira\n .\n * Invite the app\n into your\n channels.\n * Reply to any thread\n with\n a camera emoji.\n\nSee it in action:\n\nADD A CAMERA EMOJI TO ANY MESSAGE IN THE THREAD, CREATE A NEW TICKET, OR ADD IT\nAS A COMMENT.\n\nContent from Slack being captured into a Jira ticket can be done via\nIntegration+ using the camera emoji.\n\n\n \n\nCAPTURED ISSUE RESULT.\n\nOnce the new issue is captured in Jira, you’ll received a confirmation\nnotification.\n\n\nTry Integration+ for free\n\n\n\nINTEGRATE SLACK AND JIRA SERVICE MANAGEMENT WITH HELPDESK+\n\nAdditionally, you can automatically sync conversations in Slack with tickets in\nJira Service Management to keep everyone on the same page. To predict the\nteam’s delivery capacity in each iteration, Scrum practitioners use a metric\ncalled velocity. What is it? How does it support Agile teams? What tools to use\nto calculate velocity in a Scrum team? It’s time to find out.\n\n\nWHAT IS TEAM VELOCITY IN AGILE?\n\nScrum Inc defines velocity as “a measure of the amount of work a Team can tackle\nduring a single Sprint.” More specifically, velocity is the total number of\nstory points from the fully completed user stories in a Sprint. It’s a valuable\nmetric because it allows the team to monitor the pace of work and use it as\na baseline to improve its effectiveness in future Sprints. In Scrum, improvement\nis incredibly important. That’s why it’s better to look at the progress rather\nthan using terms like good or bad velocity.\n\nIf the Product Owner wants to include additional stories in the scope of\na Sprint, the team can gauge whether it will be possible to deliver the entire\nSprint with the addition. Alternatively, the Developers have a data-supported\nargument and they can say “Recently, our velocity has been X. Based on that, we\nmay not be able to deliver the modified scope.” Then, the Scrum team can discuss\nthe situation and decide to set some items aside for the next Sprint to make\nroom for the new addition. Knowing the team’s velocity can help make an informed\ndecision.\n\n\nBENEFITS OF MEASURING VELOCITY IN SCRUM\n\nThe metric helps visualize the progress in team performance. It’s not a goal in\nand of itself. If the Developers are able to deliver more story points\nthroughout Sprints, it means that the improvements discussed during\nthe Retrospective\n are effective.\n\nAdditionally, the Sprint’s velocity can act as a point of reference to establish\nrealistic limits for the team’s work in an iteration. If a Scrum team delivers\nmuch fewer complete user stories than it planned throughout multiple Sprints, it\nmight signal the need to reevaluate the size of the scope assigned during Sprint\nPlanning\n.\n\nSome say that knowing the team’s velocity allows the Product Owners to roughly\nestimate the number of Sprints needed to deliver all the Product Backlog Items\nin a project. However, the team would need to estimate all the user stories in\nthe Product Backlog to do that. Naturally, such estimates have to be taken with\na grain of salt. After all, no agile project is set in stone. Adding new items\nto the backlog will impact the number of iterations needed to complete the\ninitiative.\n\nFor velocity to be even remotely accurate, it’s best to apply it to a particular\nfeature instead of a whole project. Additionally, both the product and its\ndirection must be relatively stable.\n\n\nPITFALLS OF TEAM VELOCITY IN SCRUM\n\nVelocity may differ between teams considerably. The main factors that influence\nthis metric include the team size, the Sprint length, the availability of\nDevelopers, and the approach to estimating user stories\n. With the latter being\nrelative, there is no universal point of reference. Thus, seeing a large\ndiscrepancy in velocity reports of multiple Scrum teams is not a cause for\nconcern.\n\nIt’s also important to note that juxtaposing the velocities of multiple teams is\nnot an effective measurement. Instead, it’s worth focusing on improving the\nvelocity of each team separately. Otherwise, it will foster an environment of\nunhealthy cross-team competition and may result in story point inflation.\n\nSimilarly, calculating velocity of singular team members goes against the\nphilosophy of the framework. In Scrum, the entire team is accountable for the\ndelivery of the Sprint. Consequently, the contribution of all the members makes\nup the team’s productivity.\n\n\nHOW TO CALCULATE THE TEAM’S VELOCITY?\n\nSimply put, calculating velocity requires a sample size, appropriate data from\npast Sprints, and a formula to follow. Bear in mind that a single Sprint\n may not be enough\nto provide accurate results. The common practice is to look at the last three\niterations to determine the team’s velocity.\n\nAs for the data, only the story points from the completed user stories in\na given Sprint will count toward velocity. The crux is to learn how many user\nstories the team was able to deliver in its entirety.\n\nLet’s look at an example of three Sprints that will visualize the process in\ndetail. Each iteration contains four user stories.\n\nSprint-1.png\n\n\nIn the first Sprint, one user story was incomplete, but the other three will be\na part of the calculation. All in all, the Developers managed to deliver 12\nstory points.\n\nSprint-2.png\n\n\nThe next Sprint also features a single incomplete user story and three delivered\nones. Thus, the total amount of story points completed in this Sprint is 9.\n\nSprint-3.png\n\n\nIn the last iteration, the Developers delivered all the stories they committed\nto – 12 in total.\n\nKnowing the number of completed user stories in three Sprints allows us to get\nthe average Sprint velocity:\n\nVelocity-formula.png\n\n\nOf course, you don’t have to calculate story points or the team velocity\nmanually. Most project management tools that support agile development contain\ntools that will do it for you.\n\n\nTOOLS THAT SUPPORT SPRINT VELOCITY CALCULATION\n\nWork management software such as Jira and project portfolio management apps like\nBigPicture contain a variety of tools that help Agile teams keep track of their\nperformance. Some provide information about a single iteration, while others\ngather data across multiple Sprints. The following tools will be of great use\nfor keeping track of team velocity.\n\n\nBURNDOWN CHART\n\nThe idea behind the Sprint burndown chart\n is to visualize\nthe amount of work the team completes during each day of the iteration. The\nchart starts with the sum of all story points in the Y axis and as time goes on,\nthe amount of story points should drop. At the end of the Sprint, there should\nbe no story points left to deliver.\n\nSprint-burndown-chart.png\n\n\nThe burndown chart applies to a single Sprint, but it provides the Scrum Team\nwith valuable information. Firstly, it serves as a visual representation of the\nprogress of the Sprint. Secondly, the values on the chart can signal that the\nwork does not proceed at the right pace. If the source of the delay is caught\nquickly, there may still be enough time to solve it and deliver the full scope.\n\nJira Software includes a burndown chart in its stack of reports\n. Below is an\nexample of a burndown chart in an Agile project managed in Atlassian’s tool.\n\nBurndown-chart-in-Jira.png\n\n\n\nAGILE BOARD\n\nThose who need to manage an Agile project more holistically should look into\na project management tool like BigPicture . On\nthe project level, it will serve as the command center of all the team\nactivities related to the iterative development of the product.\n\nThe Board module captures Jira project data and visualizes it in a comprehensive\nmanner. That way, the Product Owners can easily see the progress of the scope\ncommitted to each Sprint, along with key information for each user story.\n\nAgile-board-BigPicture.png\n\n\nWhether it’s a team or individual view, the task cards display fields such as\nthe story point amount, assignee, epic link, or dependencies\n, to name\na few. In fact, the categories of information are fully configurable, so the\ncards can be modified to present any built-in or custom fields of your choice.\n\nOn top of that, the Board displays the capacity of the team and compares it with\nthe allocated story points of all the tasks. That offers a quick insight into\nthe allocation of the team. The data is based on the capacity planning\n values for\neach iteration, which can change depending on various circumstances and can be\nquickly set manually for the entire team or each member separately.\n\nThe module also features a backlog panel. As a result, scheduling a story and\nassigning it to a team is both easy and fast thanks to drag-and-drop.\n\n\nVELOCITY CHART\n\nAs the name suggests, the chart tracks the velocity of the team. However, that\nmetric in itself doesn’t tell the full story. But when you add the overall\ncapacity and compare the two, it paints a more detailed picture of the\nperformance of the Agile team in previous Sprints.\n\nThat’s exactly what BigPicture Enterprise’s\n velocity\nreport does. It presents the team’s velocity in the context of the overall\ncapacity. The chart gathers the data from capacity planning and completed user\nstories in the given iteration automatically.\n\nVelocity-chart-BigPicture.png\n\n\nGenerating the velocity chart only takes a few clicks. Just pick the appropriate\nreport type, add the name, and select one of the teams. After each completed\nSprint, simply open the report and the chart will display the up-to-date story\npoint values.\n\nVelocity-chart-settings.png\n\n\nMonitoring the performance of Agile teams and improving their efficiency is\nincredibly important, in Scrum or any other framework. Sprint velocity is a key\nmetric in measuring the pace of delivery of Product Backlog Items. Moreover, it\nis an indication of the work the Developers can deliver in future Sprints.\n\nAgile tools like the velocity chart improve the management aspect by displaying\naccurate work management data automatically. Make sure to use them when you\ntrack team performance throughout iterations.\n\nTry BigPicture for free\n","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/af4f10fee3a92ce405b97421ce0a5da6.jpg","id":"blog-post_ozqcyo9a9dawwjo3t4d8rdy7","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T13:38:21.651Z","slug":"velocity-in-scrum","solutions":[],"title":"Team velocity in Scrum: what is it and how to track it","topics":["Agile roadmapping","Project Management","Jira"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Appfire","collection_type":"blog-post","description":"It’s time once again to raise a (virtual) glass to our incredible partners as we\nannounce Appfire’s 2023 Red Hot Partner Awards. \n\n \n\nThe 2023 Red Hot Partner Award winners represent an elite group of solution\npartners with strong year-over-year growth and outstanding sales volume of\nAppfire products. Especially when you\nneed an old document — like a contract —but can't find it in the mess of folders\non your company's shared drive.\n\nIdeally, everything you need should be just a click away\n\nwhenever you need it. That's the promise of effective Document Management (DM)\nand Knowledge Management (KM).\n\nBut you don’t need to choose between Document Management and Knowledge\nManagement. Knowing how to use both will make work easier and help your team get\nmore done. Let's explore how using these concepts together can streamline your\nworkflows.\n\n\nCOMMON CHALLENGES AND PAIN POINTS\n\nModern business processes come with their share of challenges and frustrations.\nHere are some that might sound familiar:\n\n * Information overload: Managing a lot of documents and knowledge sources can\n lead to confusion and inefficiency.\n * Knowledge silos: When knowledge isn't shared the right way with the right\n people, valuable insights get stuck in isolated pockets, slowing down\n collaboration and innovation.\n * Document disarray: Without proper organization, team members and stakeholders\n can’t find the documents they need. Sifting through the messy jumble wastes\n time and causes frustration.\n * Lack of collaboration tools: Limited tools for working together can make\n teamwork harder and communication less effective.\n\nBut don't worry! Using Knowledge Management and Document Management effectively\nwill help. Understanding the difference between them is the first step to\nappreciating how they work together to make work easier and more productive.\n\n\nDOCUMENT MANAGEMENT VS. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT\n\n\nWHAT IS DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT?\n\nDocument Management (DM) is the process of organizing, storing, and sharing\ndocuments systematically within an organization, like contracts, invoices, and\nforms. DM is a crucial part of Knowledge Management, which takes a\nbigger-picture approach to managing organizational knowledge.\n\nBut how can you automate this process using Confluence? Let's first compare\nDocument Management vs. Knowledge Management to understand their distinctions\nand overlaps.\n\nMain features of Document Management software:\n\n * Access to specific documents: DM software offers streamlined access to\n specific documents, ensuring relevant information is easily available when\n needed, enhancing efficiency.\n * Metadata and organization: DM solutions provide robust metadata organization\n capabilities, enabling users to categorize and tag documents for easy\n retrieval, ensuring logical structure and efficient management.\n * Improving teamwork and productivity: DM software fosters collaborative work\n environments by centralizing document storage and providing collaborative\n features like version control and document sharing, enhancing teamwork and\n productivity.\n\n\nWHAT IS KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT?\n\nKnowledge Management (KM) covers organizing, creating, sharing, and using\nknowledge across the organization, including research findings, insights from\nvarious sources, general knowledge libraries, and efficient data tracking\nmethods. KM is a holistic system covering different processes and tools to make\nthe most of organizational knowledge.\n\nMain features of Knowledge Management software:\n\n * Emphasis on tacit and explicit knowledge: KM software focuses on capturing\n and sharing both tacit (informal, experiential) and explicit (formal,\n codified) knowledge within an organization, ensuring effective management and\n utilization.\n * Use of natural language search engines: KM solutions use advanced natural\n language search engines, enabling users to find relevant information quickly\n and intuitively, enhancing the efficiency of knowledge retrieval processes.\n * Efficient connection of people: KM software emphasizes connecting individuals\n within the organization to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration,\n promoting a culture of collaboration and collective learning.\n\n\nWHY THE DIFFERENCES MATTER\n\n * Importance of clear definitions for business needs: Establishing clear\n definitions of DM and KM tailored to the organization's requirements ensures\n that the chosen solution addresses pain points directly and contributes to\n organizational efficiency.\n * Understanding user needs before implementation: A comprehensive understanding\n of end-users' needs, workflows, and preferences is vital before implementing\n any management system. Because understanding users' needs will ensure that\n the selected solution aligns with objectives, resulting in enhanced user\n satisfaction and improved adoption rates.\n * Risks of misunderstanding differences and weak ROI metrics: Misunderstanding\n the distinctions between DM and KM can result in misaligned strategies and\n weak ROI metrics, so you risk investing resources in solutions that fail to\n address broader knowledge management needs. And using the wrong solutions\n can, in turn, tank your overall performance and efficiency. Clear\n differentiation and understanding will help you avoid these pitfalls and\n ensure successful implementation.\n * Highlighting the broader scope and efficiency of KM: While DM focuses on\n organizing and managing documents, KM is broader — a holistic approach to\n harnessing your organization's collective intelligence. By adopting KM\n strategies, you can efficiently manage both tacit and explicit knowledge,\n fostering innovation and achieving sustainable growth. This broader\n perspective enables your organization to tap into its wealth of knowledge\n resources, driving continuous improvement and competitive advantage.\n\nDocument Management is a vital piece of the larger Knowledge Management puzzle:\nDM and KM work together to achieve your organization's knowledge management\ngoals.\n\n\nINTEGRATING DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT\n\nBy aligning Document Management with Knowledge Management, organizations can\nstreamline information flow, increasing efficiency and enhancing\ndecision-making.\n\n * Harmonizing information flow for efficiency: Integration between DM and KM\n ensures easy access to information\n ,\n breaking down silos and facilitating effective sharing of insights.\n * Maximizing benefits through integration: Combining DM and KM functionalities\n enhances productivity, collaboration, and innovation\n .\n This integration ensures effective management of information throughout its\n lifecycle.\n * How Comala Document Management can help: CDM plays a pivotal role in bridging\n the gap between DM and KM\n .\n With robust features for automating processes and improving collaboration,\n CDM facilitates the seamless integration of document and knowledge management\n solutions, contributing to organizational success.\n\n\nSOLUTIONS: AUTOMATING PROCESSES WITH COMALA DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT\n\nComala Document Management\n\n(CDM) offers a simple solution to automate document lifecycle processes\n,\nmaking work easier for your team. Integrated with Confluence, CDM's features\ntransform how you manage documents\n\nfor your business. Let’s explore what CDM can do for you:\n\n\nCOMALA DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT FEATURES FOR AUTOMATION, GOVERNANCE, AND REPORTING\n\n 1. Not so long ago,\nmanagers had no choice but to apply one or the other to deliver projects.\nOrganizations benefitted from the strengths and lived with the weaknesses. Over\ntime, this thinking has evolved into another option – the Hybrid project\nmanagement approach. The blended way of management is gaining support among\nbusinesses worldwide.\n\nIf you’ve never heard of the Hybrid approach before, it’s time to change that.\nYou will get familiar with the term and discover its pros and cons. On top of\nthat, we’ve added a blueprint to start your journey with Hybrid. As a bonus,\nthere will be a list of tools to help you in your daily Hybrid project\nmanagement duties.\n\n\nWHAT IS HYBRID PROJECT MANAGEMENT?\n\nIn a nutshell, the Hybrid approach is a combination of elements from\nmultiple project management methodologies\n. In\nits most popular application, Hybrid entails utilizing parts of Classic and\nAgile methodologies to create a tailored way of delivering initiatives.\n\nUsually, Hybrid projects derive detailed planning from a Classic methodology.\nConversely, the execution is adaptive, just like in the Agile project management\napproach. This mixture provides project managers with rigidity in preparation,\nclear goals, and deadlines. However, the iterative aspect of the Agile approach\nhelps deliver complete chunks of work more frequently and improve the process as\nthe project goes on.\n\n\nREASONS TO IMPLEMENT THE HYBRID PROJECT MANAGEMENT APPROACH\n\nIn other words, why should you carry out initiatives using the Hybrid method?\nHere are two situations where the blended project management approach can work\nin your favor.\n\n\nONE METHODOLOGY DOESN’T FULLY WORK\n\nProcesses, tools, and methodologies are supposed to make things easier for\nmanagers and project teams. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.\n\nLet’s say you run a Waterfall project. You have the scope, the budget, and the\ndeadline. At some point, one of the key stakeholders has a game-changing\nrequest. It would make the end result much better, but with Waterfall, it’s not\nso easy.\n\nWith a Classic and Agile blend, the request could have been implemented. It\nwould be added to the backlog and prioritized accordingly. Maybe other\nfunctionalities would have been sacrificed, but the product would have\nbenefitted in the end.\n\nObviously, going from Waterfall to Hybrid mid-project is not the way to go, but\nthis scenario illustrates that some projects could deliver more value in the\nHybrid form.\n\n\nTO SUPPORT THE AGILE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS\n\nCompany-wide application of the philosophy and principles of agile is a long and\ncomplex process. In fact, the bigger the organization, the longer it takes.\nHybrid can serve as a stopgap in the transition into Agile.\n\nGoing Hybrid allows teams to get familiar with agile methods with the safety net\nof the predictive Classic structure.\n\nFor example, some businesses use Waterfall phases and Agile sprints. Each\nproject phase consists of several sprints. Even though the iterative timeboxes\nmight be new to some team members, they still operate in the context of phases.\nErgo, there is a sense of familiarity among the new processes.\n\n\nADVANTAGES OF HYBRID PROJECT MANAGEMENT\n\nThere is a lot to like about Hybrid. In fact, let’s take a look at three\nbenefits of the blended approach to managing projects.  \n\n\nCUSTOMIZABILITY\n\nThe main benefit of a Hybrid project is that you can tailor it to the needs of\nthe industry or specific project. It’s not about following a recipe to a tee.\nIt’s about making the process work for the initiative. Hybrid management helps\ntake advantage of the upsides of various methodologies while minimizing the\ndownsides.\n\nSince there is no one way of “doing Hybrid,” project managers have a lot of\nflexibility in the way they will conduct the initiatives. It’s up to them which\nelements to incorporate and how to do it.\n\n\nADAPTABILITY\n\nIn most cases, Hybrid project management entails applying agile principles. It\nmeans that teams should adapt to changing priorities. The Hybrid approach can\nserve as a motivator, especially at the stage when the Agile transformation in\nthe organization is still ongoing.\n\nAdaptability also means reacting to customer expectations and feedback. For\nteams operating in the Waterfall project management model, it might be a new\nexperience. But in the end, it makes the product more in tune with the\ncustomers’ needs, therefore offering more value.\n\n\nEASY TO GET STARTED\n\nCompared to going full Agile straight from Classic, choosing Hybrid means you\ndon’t have to make drastic changes from the get-go. Instead, you have full\ncontrol over the transition, which means you can employ a project management\nprocess from a number of Agile frameworks.\n\nAdditionally, the degree to which you use the new frameworks is up to you, the\nteam, and the stakeholders.\n\n\nCHALLENGES OF HYBRID PROJECT MANAGEMENT\n\nJust like with any other project management methodology, it’s not all rainbows\nand butterflies. Here are some of the aspects you should look out for in\na Hybrid approach.\n\n\nMULTI-METHODOLOGY COMPETENCE\n\nBlending multiple methodologies means knowing enough about them first. For some\nproject managers that might not be an issue. However, it is worth pointing out,\njust in case.\n\nCrucially, the same challenge applies to other members of the organization. For\ninstance, some stakeholders might be used to the Waterfall approach. Their role\nin Agile projects requires much more frequent involvement. Making that\ntransition starts with education and forming iterative-friendly habits. All of\nthat can take some time before the stakeholders master their role in a new\nenvironment.\n\nLast but not least, project teams could be undergoing a similar transition.\nIterative development is nothing like the traditional execution of deliverables.\nNew processes, different tools, and artifacts, all of that takes some getting\nused to.\n\n\nSTAKEHOLDER APPROVAL\n\nFor Hybrid project management to be effective, the stakeholders must be on board\nwith its implementation. Hybrid projects tend to rely heavily on stakeholder\ninput, at least those that apply Agile project management practices at the\nexecution stage. Therefore, it can prove difficult to convince the sponsors to\nadapt to the changing requirements.\n\n\nLACK OF PRECISE DEFINITION\n\nFor a project manager who prefers clearly defined frameworks, Hybrid may seem\ntoo loose at first. It’s not as well-described as the Waterfall methodology, or\neven Agile frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, or Lean. Thus, it might not be\nsuitable for managers who prefer handling projects “by the book”.\n\nIf these drawbacks seem workable, it might be a good idea to start managing your\nproject in a hybrid manner. But how to get the ball rolling?\n\n\nBLENDING AGILE AND WATERFALL METHODOLOGIES THE RIGHT WAY\n\nBlending-agile-and-hybird-1536x680.png\n\n\nIn the Hybrid approach, you can mix and match elements of various methodologies\nat will. However, having so many options to choose from might be overwhelming at\nfirst. Don’t worry, there is a blueprint you can follow to get started in\nHybrid.\n\nIt will focus on three key areas of every project:\n\n * Planning,\n * Execution,\n * Monitoring and reporting.\n\n\nCLASSIC PLANNING\n\nPrior to going Hybrid, project managers usually had gone the Classic route.\nActually, this is where the experience with predictive project management will\ncome in handy. It’s a good idea to incorporate traditional project phases.\nGathering requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment – the\nwell-known overlaying structure can stay the same.\n\nAdditionally, this structure allows the project manager to operate with a higher\ndegree of certainty. Elements like the goal, timeline, project scope, or budget\nare established in advance.\n\nThe same applies to documentation. Gathering necessary information takes place\nat the requirement analysis stage. This gives the project team a comprehensive\nsource of information to use during the later phases of the project. Speaking of\nlater stages, that’s when the Agile approaches kick in.\n\n\nAGILE EXECUTION\n\nWhen the planning phase is ready, it’s time to turn the tasks into project\ndeliverables. That’s where the flexibility of the Agile process proves its\nworth. You can apply various agile frameworks, such as Scrum or Kanban\n to name a few.\n\nIn Scrum, a typical team works in Sprints – a timeboxed event that aims to\nproduce working products or features. Each one starts with a Sprint Planning\nsession where the team chooses items from the backlog they plan to deliver in\nthe near future. At the end of the Sprint, the team presents the results of\ntheir work to the stakeholders.\n\nSpeaking of, stakeholder feedback is an important part of the Agile development\nprocess. Their contribution can add more value to the product. That’s one of the\nadvantages of this Agile method. In Classic, customer feedback occurs much less\nfrequently. In many instances, it happens at the end of the project. It can then\nbe too late to make valuable changes and the end result doesn’t fulfill all of\nits potential.\n\nKanban, on the other hand, is a continuous process that prioritizes improving\nthe product incrementally. Teams plan their work with the help of boards and\ntask cards. There is no equivalent of Scrum roles, Sprints, or events. Kanban is\na much simpler framework in that regard.\n\nThe practitioners of this framework use the Work In Progress Limit\n to manage the workload of\neach team member. The idea behind it is to reduce the number of open tasks and\nfocus on fewer things at once. The implementation of WIP limits diminishes the\nrisk of scope creep\n.\n\nBoth frameworks are adaptive in nature. It means that while the project is in\nprogress, priorities can change, and new ideas can replace the existing ones.\n\n\nCLASSIC MONITORING AND REPORTING\n\nEven though the work progresses iteratively, stakeholders are often more\ninterested in the larger picture of the initiative. Instead of analyzing the\nresults of each Sprint, they might assess the progress after reaching\na milestone or ending a phase.\n\nThis impacts the reporting aspect. Managers present project data that\nincorporates multiple Sprints. Therefore, presenting information regarding the\nschedule, progress, budget, or risks\n concerns\na larger time frame of a project.\n\nWhen the project progresses smoothly, there is no need to make significant\nchanges. However, if there are any delays, allocation issues, or the budget is\nexceeded, the Hybrid project should be reviewed holistically. That means the\nplanning of the next steps happens in a Classic manner.\n\n\nHYBRID MANAGEMENT TOOLS\n\nUnlike Agile or Classic approaches, Hybrid doesn’t have any unique tools.\nInstead, it borrows them from blended methodologies. As such, coming up with\na complete list is a tall order. Instead, it’s worth mentioning the most popular\ntools Hybrid managers can utilize.\n\n\nGANTT CHARTS\n\nOne of the must-haves in every Classic project manager’s arsenal. The Gantt\nchart\n is\nused to visualize phases, tasks, duration, and dependencies in Classic\ninitiatives. Though it’s worth noting that it can be useful in Agile\n, too.\n\nAs for Hybrid project management, the most popular use case concerns high-level\nplanning. Determining phases, estimating the timeline, outlining milestones –\nthat’s where the Gantt charts show their worth.\n\nThe tool provides managers with a clear overview of the whole project. Visual\nelements like the taskbars aligned on a timeline convey information much better\nthan a list or a table with raw data. Quite often, it is accompanied by a Work\nBreakdown Structure\n. It’s\na detailed structure of the scope of the work, one that is broken down all the\nway to the individual task level.\n\nHybrid-project-wbs-1536x752.png\nAn\nexample of a timeboxed Gantt chart (right) with a Work Breakdown Structure\n(left) in a Hybrid project in BigPicture.\n\nIn BigPicture , the Gantt chart can serve as\na bridge between Classic and Agile. The timeboxes outline both the high-level\nWaterfall phases as well as iterative increments. Stakeholders and executives\ncan focus on the progress of each phase, and the project manager can plan the\ndetailed work for Agile teams\n.\n\n\nCRITICAL PATH\n\nIn some cases, the Gantt chart contains another useful feature. It’s called\nthe critical path\n and it\noutlines the longest possible sequence of tasks that ensures the completion of\nthe project. It lets managers know which tasks are “immovable” if they want to\ndeliver the initiative on time.\n\nBefore the age of project management software, managers used to calculate and\ndetermine the critical path manually. Fortunately, those days are behind us.\nNow, PPM tools like BigPicture display the critical path automatically.\n\nAs a result, project managers can prioritize tasks and distribute available\nresources more efficiently. Here is an example of a critical path for a Hybrid\nproject, displayed on a Gantt chart.\n\nHybrid-project-critical-path-1536x704.png\nAn\nexample of the critical path for a Hybrid project (taskbars marked in orange) in\nBigPicture.\n\n\nBACKLOG\n\nNow it’s time for an iterative tool. For teams that use Agile frameworks like\nScrum, the Sprint Backlog is one of the key artifacts. Essentially, it’s a list\nof tasks that need to be completed during the Sprint. The team creates the list\ntogether and estimates the items in terms of duration or effort required to\ndeliver it.\n\nIn most Hybrid applications, teams use the backlog in each project phase. On top\nof that, the phases consist of multiple Sprints. Once all the items in the\nbacklog are complete, the next stage of the project begins.\n\nHybrid-project-backlog-1536x840.png\nAn\nexample of an Agile board with a backlog (right).\n\n\nBURNDOWN CHART\n\nEssentially, a burndown chart tracks the progress of the Sprint on a daily\nbasis. It contains two axes. The X axis lists the days of the Sprint, whereas\nthe Y axis is where the remaining effort is cataloged. With each passing day,\nthe value of effort should drop. Ideally, it would stop at 0 at the end of the\nSprint.\n\nThe chart contains two lines. One slopes down at a steady angle and represents\nthe ideal progress throughout the sprint. The other reflects the actual\nprogress, which is often far from ideal. Here is an example of a burndown chart:\n\nSprint-burndown-chart-example-1536x1104.png\nAn\nexample of a Sprint burndown chart.\n\n\nIt allows the managers can see how much work has been done after each day. Also,\nit’s easy to see if the velocity of progress is enough to deliver all the user\nstories/backlog items scheduled in the Sprint. And if there are any issues that\nneed solving, it’s more likely to spot them before it’s too late.\n\nHow to get the most out of a Sprint burndown chart\n?\n\n * Update the values at the end of each day – consistency is key.\n * Set realistic targets.\n * Discuss the daily progress with the team.\n\nThat wraps up our introduction to Hybrid project management. However, before you\nset off into the sunset and start your first Hybrid project, here is a short\ninfographic. Use it as a summary of everything you need to know to get started.\n\nHybrid-Project-Management-infographic-1804x2048.png\n\n\nTry BigPicture for free\n","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/793bf2813de5c1cfaa85e079438f0857.jpg","id":"blog-post_olqvb48tj1ppohbxwzsnht1w","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T15:01:21.298Z","slug":"hybrid-project-management-introduction","solutions":[],"title":"Introduction to Hybrid project management","topics":["Gantt","Hybrid management","Project Management","Reporting","Jira"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Lisa Teves","collection_type":"blog-post","description":"Agile is not for purists – everyone who even scratched the surface of this\napproach knows that. There are so many different frameworks and takes, created\nfor the sole purpose of adjusting Agile to teams’ specific needs. Yet, even the\nmost flexible approach needs a solid foundation. In Agile it’s the communication\nbetween stakeholders to keep everyone aligned. That’s why alignment meetings are\nso important.\n\n\nWHAT IS AN ALIGNMENT MEETING?\n\nIn broader terms, alignment meetings are gatherings of all interested parties,\nthat have one purpose: to keep everyone on the same page. According to\nthe University of Minnesota\n, developing\na common understanding among the key stakeholders of the purpose and goals of\nthe project and the means and methods of accomplishing those goals is called the\nalignment process.\n\nThis emphasis on common understanding is a key for every Agile project and\nprogram you work on. With the classic (Waterfall\n)\napproach, the update comes when the stage ends.  It can take weeks or months\nwithout any proper updates. Alignment meetings in Agile happen much more often,\nusually every few weeks, and are cyclical. Below are the main topics, that are\nusually addressed during those meetings.\n\n\nWHY ARE WE DOING IT, OR PROJECT PURPOSE\n\nWith the start of every Agile project or program, a manager must ask themselves\none, but very important question: what is the business value we want to achieve?\nWhat is the main purpose of each initiative? You can’t even begin planning\nwithout establishing, what your team is trying to accomplish, improve, or\nincrease the program’s business value.\n\n\nWHAT DO WE WANT TO ACHIEVE, OR GOALS\n\nAfter you clearly establish your business goals, you can break them down into\nsmaller chunks of work. These goals can be milestones, KPIs, or Story Points.\nEach goal should bring you closer to the business value. It must be understood\nby every party and be achievable within the Sprint.\n\n\nHOW WE WANT TO ACHIEVE IT, OR MEANS AND METHODS\n\nWhat language code should you use? How many Story Points do you want to achieve\nin this particular Sprint? Which tools you should use to communicate internally\nand externally? These are the questions that need to be answered before the\nactual work starts. Knowing what set of tools each team uses helps you\nunderstand their workflow better and communicate more effectively.\n\n\nWHO WILL TAKE CARE OF WHAT, OR ROLES\n\nIn Agile Scrum, there are three key roles: product owner, scrum master, and the\ndevelopment team members. The product owner must manage the backlog items,\ncommunicate with stakeholders, and set a clear vision for the business value\nthey want to achieve. Scrum master supports the development team in its work and\nhelps the product owner define the goals and visions. This role is often called\na servant leader – an approach that prioritizes cooperation and authority over\npower and autocracy.\n\n\nTHE IMPORTANCE OF ALIGNMENT MEETINGS\n\nbigpicture_alignment-meetings_3.jpg\n\n\n\nTRUST – THE CORNERSTONE OF AGILE\n\nThinking about the Agile manifesto,  there is\nalways one thing that comes to mind – trust. The big shift, that this approach\nbrought to the management world, wasn’t about iterative workflow or dividing\nprograms into smaller chunks. It was about how we approach and perceive our\nteammates.\n\nFrom the beginning of the 21st century, the shift in management was more and\nmore visible. The hierarchical approach required many steps to contact\nhigher-ups for their approval or opinion about every slightly bigger initiative.\nThe tool to track your commitment wasn’t the amount of work you did, but the\ntime you’ve spent in your office. Every process or way to solve the problem was\nsupposed to be approved by management, and team members had very little room to\nexperiment or interact aside from rigid rules of the office space.\n\nMeanwhile, Agile is based on cooperation and a more vertical hierarchy. Instead\nof people that will just order you what to do next, every interested party is\ninvolved in the whole process. Trust is gained on the base of constant, mutual\ncommunication, and work items the team members finish each Sprint. Instead of\nreporting, everyone is talking about their progress, sharing their hesitations,\nor complimenting other members’ work. Teams are much more self-governing, they\ndon’t require much more outside supervision. By their fruits shall ye know\nthem – a great biblical quote that fits within the Agile world.\n\nbigpicture_alignment-meetings_4.jpg\n\n\n\nALIGNMENT MEETINGS – HOW DO THEY HELP YOUR TEAM?\n\n 1. Celebrate every success.\n 2. Analyze your failures.\n 3. Don’t blame people.\n 4. Encourage collaboration over competition.\n 5. Invite people from different teams for alignment meetings.\n 6. Cross-team your planning process.\n\n\nKEEP YOUR TEAM UPDATED WITH ALIGNMENT MEETINGS\n\nBy gathering the facts we already established, we already know that aligning\nyour teams during the work on both short and long-term goals can be achieved\nthrough different means. It can be done through regular meet-ups, which can\nhappen every few weeks; by giving certain autonomy to the teams and asking them\nabout progress, without the whole report to me schtick. Or by giving every\ninterested party a voice, and letting them know they’re part of a bigger whole,\nthat can address the problem and inform about breakthroughs or successes.\nImportantly, always look for doubts or less addressed areas and issues and try\nto talk about them and, if possible, flush them out. The more people understand\nthe program or project, the more value they can bring to them.\n\n\nTIPS FOR AN OPTIMAL ALIGNMENT MEETING\n\nbigpicture_alignment-meetings_5.jpg\n\n\n\nCOMMON CHALLENGES OF ALIGNMENT MEETINGS\n\nNaturally, the most basic challenge is gathering everyone in one place (or call)\nat the same time. That’s why delegating one person from each team is a common\nsolution to this problem.\n\nThe next challenge is moderation. When preparing an alignment meeting, one must\nthink about the agenda of this meeting – the order, in which the teams speak,\nwhat topics you want to cover, and the time period (e.g. current and previous\nSprint).\n\nThe other challenge is the environment. Don’t create a stiff, official\natmosphere, where everyone must report each initiative. Be welcoming and\nencourage people to talk about overall directions, potential halting points, or\nachieved milestones. You create a place, where ideas aren’t thwarted, but lively\ndiscussed and people can trust each other. Which, as we already know, is\na cornerstone of Agile.\n\n\nREACHING ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR GROUP\n\nThe best way to reach group alignment is simple – just listen to what others\nhave to say during Daily. This event, as the name implies, happens every day and\nis essential for every Agile team. It synchronizes each team member, allows them\nto unfold tasks effectively, and reassigns their efforts to more important\ntasks. Daily is truly a miracle tool and usually lasts about half an hour –\na small price for more effective work.\n\n\nSTEP-BY-STEP ALIGNMENT MEETING INSTRUCTIONS\n\n 1. Set one, specific day of the week for alignment meeting (e.g. every Tuesday\n every three weeks).\n 2. Invite people and teams, that will actually benefit from these meetings.\n 3. Be on time.\n 4. Stay on the topic – ask about the most important initiatives, plans, and\n upcoming events.\n 5. Encourage other meetings that will deepen the potential important issues –\n alignment is about the bigger picture.\n\nbigpicture_alignment-meetings_2.jpg\n\n\n\nHOW CAN YOU ACCELERATE TEAM ALIGNMENT?\n\nDon’t turn alignment meetings into slog – this way, you will soon hear many\nexcuses not to attend the next meeting. Keep it simple – alignment meetings\nshould be about tasks and initiatives in a broader sense. Keep the time limit\nreasonable – two hours should be enough, usually, these meetings can last even\none hour. Then the acceleration comes with each meeting – team members know what\nthey should talk about and to whom should they delegate their coverage. This way\nit gets better and better each time.\n\n\nRESOURCES FOR ACHIEVING ALIGNMENT MEETING MASTERY\n\nThere are many great tools to help you improve your meetings and get the best\nout of them. From obvious ones, such as Zoom or Google Meet to even connect, you\ncan use Jira to follow the tickets, BigPicture to see the progress and roadmaps\nof initiatives, Miro for potential brainstorming, and Calendly to plan\nadditional meetings. There are myriads of apps to use, so don’t hesitate and\nexperiment with them and see, which tools are the best for your alignment\nmeetings.","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/1933a09fb9b51bc27d98ecf23042acab.jpg","id":"blog-post_m4z4tf8wigchkl7nlz7bkvys","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T13:37:36.848Z","slug":"alignment-meetings-guide","solutions":[],"title":"Alignment meetings – The subtle art of keeping everyone up-to-date","topics":["Project Management","Resource management","Jira"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Lisa Teves","collection_type":"blog-post","description":"Aligning and optimizing an Agile team takes time. Transforming your team from\na group of strangers into an efficient unit that delivers great value to\ncustomers requires an intentional process.\n\nIn this post, we’ll break down the steps for building a high-performing Agile\nteam. The process can help you gauge where your team is on its development\njourney and what to expect next.\n\nOnce your team reaches its full potential, you’ll still need to actively manage\nsome areas. We’ll take a look at those, too.\n\n\nWHAT IS AN AGILE TEAM?\n\nAn Agile team is a cross-functional group of people who work together on the\nsame project. Together, the team members have all the competencies required to\ndeliver the project from start to finish.\n\nThe members all work towards a common goal. In Agile, all contributors share\naccountability for the project’s success or failure. Size-wise, an Agile team\nusually consists of 3 to 10 people, but it’s not a rule all frameworks follow.\n\n\nCHARACTERISTICS OF AN AGILE TEAM\n\n * Self-organization: The whole team works together to plan the work and make\n adjustments as needed.\n * Holding each other accountable: The members share accountability for\n delivering work and foster a culture of helping each other out.\n * Customer centricity: Adding value to the customer is the team’s priority.\n * Continuous improvement: The team strives to optimize skills and processes\n gradually to get better results.\n * Cross-functionality: The team has all the competencies necessary to deliver\n the project.\n * Collaboration: Agile teams collaborate and work towards a shared vision.\n * Adaptability: When requirements and priorities change or unexpected\n challenges arise, the team can handle them.\n * Communication: The team communicates frequently and openly about goals.\n Developers devise a plan for each Sprint and adapt it to fulfill the Sprint\n Goal.\n\nCharacteristics of an Agile team\n\n\n\nAGILE TEAM: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nThe roles of an Agile team can vary depending on the framework. For example,\nroles in Scrum might differ from those in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®).\n\nAs Scrum is the most popular Agile framework, most teams apply its roles in\ntheir organization. So, here’s a quick breakdown of Scrum roles\n:\n\nProduct Owner – a person who defines the product’s vision and business value.\nThis role sets the course of the team’s work, including the direction and\npriority of items/user stories. The PO is accountable for Product Backlog\n management.\nLast but not least, the Product Owner represents the needs of Stakeholders.\n\nDevelopers – the people who build the product. They create value for the\nstakeholders and directly own specific tasks that must be completed to fulfill\nSprint goals. Developers devise a plan for each Sprint and adapt it to fulfill\nthe Sprint Goal.\n\nScrum Master – a person accountable for establishing and cultivating Scrum’s\npillars, values, and practices in the team. On top of that, the Scrum Master\n is accountable for the team’s effectiveness.\nThe role also acts as a coach in terms of self-management and\ncross-functionality. The Scrum Master acts as a servant leader within the team.\n\nStakeholder – a person outside the team with a specific interest (a stake) in\na product. It can be a project sponsor, a customer, or an executive, to name\na few. Stakeholders don’t participate in most Scrum Events (except the Sprint\nReview ). Instead, they are represented by the\nProduct Owner.\n\n\n4 STAGES OF AGILE TEAM DEVELOPMENT\n\nHigh-performing Agile teams don’t just happen. Every Agile team goes through\na four-stage process to become the best version of itself. These stages are\nbased on Bruce Tuckman’s group development model.\n\n\n1. FORMING\n\nAt this stage, team members are unclear about their roles and responsibilities.\nProcesses are not yet established and their knowledge of the product is\nrelatively low. The manager (or Product Owner) guides the team, provides\nresources, and empowers members to gain more independence.\n\nInterestingly, forming starts all over again when someone joins or leaves the\nteam. After all, group dynamics change and the shared skill sets might be\ndivided differently.\n\n\n2. STORMING\n\nDuring the storming phase, members know much more about the product and the\nobjectives. They also know how team decisions are made.\n\nBut the details of how the team works together are still unclear. The team\nstarts “figuring each other out.” Members begin voicing opinions more\nfrequently. They cooperate, solve problems, and start learning each other’s work\nand communication styles. Team members might sometimes clash, but it’s all part\nof the learning process. In a healthy environment, conflict uncovers different\nperspectives and leads to better decisions.\n\nTo speed up the storming process, you can use team-building exercises. These\nkinds of exercises help team members get to know one another better and\ncooperate in a fun atmosphere.\n\n\n3. NORMING\n\nAt this point, the members know each other well and understand everyone’s roles\nwithin the group. There’s more awareness of skills and how everyone’s work\naffects the rest of the team. Members are more likely to self-manage, reducing\ntheir reliance on managers/Product Owners.\n\nIn the norming stage, increased alignment and responsibility emerge. The whole\ngroup is committed to the team’s goals.\n\nBut the development isn’t over. Now the team starts optimizing processes and\nimproving skills.\n\n\n4. PERFORMING\n\nAt the last stage of Agile team development, the team consistently performs at\na high level. The members plan their work and deliver value for the customer.\nTheir work contributes to the Product Goal.\n\nThere’s little to no oversight because the team has the skills, knowledge, and\nconfidence to manage themselves successfully. Their experience enables them to\nthink strategically rather than simply focusing on short-term work.\n\nLastly, an Agile team reaches a performing stage when members evaluate their\nprocesses and metrics.\n\nIt’s worth noting that the performing stage doesn’t have a finish line. Agile\nteams continuously improve their skills, quality, and efficiency.\n\nAgile team characteristics\n\n\n\nKEY AREAS OF AGILE TEAM MANAGEMENT\n\nJust because your Agile team reaches the performing stage doesn’t mean there’s\nnothing to manage. The initiatives might run more smoothly and teams might\nrequire less oversight, but as an Agile manager, you still need to monitor\nthings.\n\nLet’s look at two critical areas that require your attention regardless of your\nteam’s development stage.\n\n\nCAPACITY\n\n“Capacity” is the amount of work a person or team can deliver in a given time.\nLike user stories, Agile capacity is usually estimated in story points\n.\n\nKnowing the team’s capacity is vital during Sprint Planning: It gives you\na point of reference for assigning tasks. Use this data to avoid overloading\nyour team members.\n\nWork management software like Jira can show you the story point value for each\ntask, but won’t show you the total number of story points in a project or\nSprint. You won’t see a baseline to compare the assigned workload.\n\nBut using the BigPicture\n app, you\nget a comprehensive view of capacity data. You can set capacity limits for\nindividual members or the entire team. This capability is helpful for teams at\nthe performing stage. They know how to estimate their workload, so all you need\nto do is enter their capacity limits in BigPicture:\n\nFrame 1261158244.jpg\n\n\nThat will provide you with a point of reference for the Agile board, which can\ndisplay the allocation of all story points in a Sprint and individual story\npoint values for each task. The app will warn you if the number of allocated\nstory points exceeds capacity.\n\nFrame 1261158245.jpg\n\n\nAnd if you measure progress in days instead of story points, BigPicture can\nhandle that, too.\n\n\nMEASURING AND REPORTING PROGRESS\n\nBefore you can measure progress, you have to choose your metrics. And there are\na lot of metrics to choose from. For example, you can use team velocity\n to track your team’s\neffectiveness. But you can also measure the business impact, quality of output,\nor customer satisfaction.\n\nThen there’s reporting to higher-ups. Executives want status updates on your\nprojects to see if their resources are properly managed. If you want accurate\nreports, you need real-time data.\n\nTo improve your tracking and reporting capabilities, use Dashboard Hub Pro\n.\nThis Appfire app enables you to create unlimited reports and gather them in\ndashboards. For example, you can create a dashboard tracking all your Agile\nmetrics in one place. The reports are dynamic, so your data always reflects\nactual progress automatically.\n\nFrame 1261158246.jpg\n\n\nYou can turn this app into a single source of information for all your\ninitiatives. With more than 100+ Jira metrics and the ability to create your\nown, you can track and visualize any information you need.\n\nThe data flows from Jira immediately, so your Agile team members can log their\nwork there, and you’ll see the progress on a higher level in Dashboard Hub Pro.\n\nYou can easily send your dashboards to executives in seconds. They don’t even\nhave to open the app to see your report.\n\n\nAPPFIRE SUPPORTS YOUR AGILE MANAGEMENT EFFORTS\n\nWhether you’re planning, overseeing the execution, or reporting the progress of\na project, our apps can help you do it easier and faster. Appfire’s Agile Work\nManagement solution can help your organization in multiple ways:\n\n * Streamlining planning on a project, program, or portfolio level\n * Increasing the visibility of initiatives at any level of granularity\n * Achieving alignment between strategy and execution\n * Supercharging collaboration within and across teams\n * Keeping the stakeholders up to date","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/32e1ddbc4d61b71b5404737359e89ecd.jpg","id":"blog-post_c8hukyvclzupfs42sdshu98h","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T13:36:59.714Z","slug":"forming-agile-teams","solutions":[],"title":"Building and managing Agile teams","topics":["Agile roadmapping","Resource management","Jira"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Steven Kling","collection_type":"blog-post","description":"The Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) is a sweeping EU regulation aimed\nat strengthening IT security and ensuring that financial institutions can\nwithstand, respond to, and recover from major disruptions—whether from\ncyberattacks, system failures, or third-party outages. DORA applies to banks,\ninsurers, and critical Information and Communication Technology (ICT) providers.\nIt even reaches beyond the European Union to include global companies that\noperate in the region or support its financial infrastructure.\n\nIf your organization falls under DORA, you’re already navigating a complex\nregulatory environment. But compliance isn’t just about checking boxes—it’s\nabout protecting the stability of a financial system that millions of people\nrely on every day.\n\nThat means taking a proactive approach: putting the right controls in place,\nbuilding oversight into everyday processes, and being ready to act when issues\narise. The good news is, you don’t have to start from scratch.\n\nBy using Jira and Confluence, you're already in a strong position to build\nintegrated compliance workflows right into the tools your teams use daily.\nAdopting a connected Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) approach can help\nyou simplify compliance efforts while strengthening operational resilience.\n\nWhile Atlassian’s System of Work provides the foundation, Appfire enhances it\nwith the automation and control needed to scale compliance end-to-end. Together,\nthey enable you to embed policy, incident, and third-party risk management\ndirectly into Jira and Confluence—so you're not just meeting requirements,\nyou're staying ahead.\n\nCurious how it all comes together? Let’s dive in.\n\n\nDORA REQUIREMENTS AT A GLANCE\n\nTo comply with DORA, your organization must address these five key areas:\n\n 1. ICT risk management\n Develop a robust framework to identify, assess, and mitigate ICT risks.\n Conduct regular reviews to stay ahead of threats.\n 2. Incident management\n Create response plans for ICT incidents, ensuring swift recovery and\n adherence to DORA’s reporting standards.\n 3. Operational resilience testing\n Regularly test resilience using DORA-approved methods, tools, and personnel\n roles.\n 4. ICT third-party risk management\n Establish principles for managing vendor risks and oversee critical ICT\n service providers effectively.\n 5. Information sharing\n Exchange threat intelligence securely to bolster sector-wide resilience.\n\nWhat happens if your organization isn’t compliant with DORA? Here’s a short list\nof potential penalties you might face:\n\n * Fines (up to 2% of the annual revenue for institutions or €5,000,000 for\n critical ICTs),\n * Unplanned additional audits,\n * Reputational damage and loss of business,\n * Suspension of operations.\n\nGiven all these factors, meeting DORA requirements isn’t optional—it’s\nessential. So, how can you take your Jira and Confluence compliance setup to the\nnext level? Let’s explore real DORA-related use cases, common challenges, and\nhow integrated solutions can help you overcome them, delivering stronger\noutcomes with less effort.\n\n\nFROM COLLABORATION TO COMPLIANCE: UNLOCKING THE FULL POTENTIAL OF ATLASSIAN\n\nHere’s what’s great about Atlassian solutions:\n\n * Jira is great for tracking and managing compliance issues and tasks, helping\n teams stay aligned and audit-ready with full traceability and accountability.\n * Confluence allows teams to centralize policies, procedures, and\n documentation, ensuring all stakeholders have access to the most up-to-date,\n approved content in a single, secure location.\n * Jira Service Management (JSM) streamlines requests and approvals, enabling\n teams to build workflows for incident management or vendor assessments, with\n clear SLAs and audit logs.\n\nThese apps are designed to streamline operations and boost productivity,\noffering robust features that help organizations manage projects and processes\neffectively.\n\nWhile Atlassian products provide a strong foundation, they aren’t built for\ncomprehensive DORA requirement compliance out of the box. For example, if you’ve\never tried tracking custom SLAs in Jira or managing policy workflows in\nConfluence, you’ve likely encountered some roadblocks.\n\nIn the next section, we’ll explore common challenges teams face when preparing\nfor audits and provide solutions to overcome them using easy-to-implement apps\nthat enhance Atlassian’s native capabilities for stronger control, visibility,\nand compliance readiness.\n\nYou’ll discover practical, integrated solutions that transform your existing\nsetup into an end-to-end DORA management system seamlessly and effectively.\n\n\nCOMPLIANCE MONITORING: KEY USE CASES\n\nStaying compliant with DORA is not about checking boxes. It’s about contributing\nto the resiliency of the financial industry that millions of Europeans rely on\ndaily. Each use case poses unique challenges and requires its own solution.\nLet’s examine the most common ones and see how Appifre apps enhance Atlassian’s\ncapabilities for DORA compliance monitoring.\n\n\n1. RISK MANAGEMENT AND RESILIENCE TESTING\n\nUnder DORA, proactively identifying system vulnerabilities is essential to\npreventing compliance failures. A strong risk management strategy should\nincorporate resilience testing to ensure continuous risk mitigation and\nregulatory readiness.\n\nExample: The Compliance Officer at a European investment firm has implemented a\nnew policy requiring quarterly operational resilience tests to assess their\nability to recover from cyberattacks.\n\nChallenge: The organization’s IT infrastructure is fragmented, making it\ndifficult for teams to execute and document test results efficiently, raising\nthe risk of missed vulnerabilities.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira: Create a resilience testing project to manage, track, and log testing.\n * Power Scripts:\n \n Configure advanced workflows to automate quarterly stress tests, manage\n execution, and ensure full traceability by automatically logging risk\n assessments and test results.\n * Dashboard Hub Pro:\n \n Aggregate test data across Jira, JSM, and other ICT systems. Export\n dashboards in seconds to create neat-looking and clear reports for\n stakeholders.\n\nOutcome: Centralized tracking provides real-time visibility into system\nvulnerabilities, enabling teams to respond faster and reduce both regulatory and\noperational risks. This proactive approach helps minimize financial and business\ndisruptions, while giving Compliance Officers a clear, audit-ready view of\norganizational resilience.\n\n\n2. INCIDENT RESPONSE\n\nDelayed incident responses can jeopardize your compliance efforts. Implementing\na structured system for logging, tracking, and managing incidents ensures swift\nresolution, maintains regulatory alignment, and provides a clear audit trail for\ncompliance.\n\nExample: The IT Operations Lead for a German bank spearheads an initiative to\nreduce incident response time to ensure compliance and operational continuity.\n\nChallenge: Security incidents are delayed or missed due to poor visibility,\noutdated information, and a fragmented incident management system. It leaves the\nIT Operations team unable to prioritize or resolve root causes effectively.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira/Jira Service Management: Manage ticket logging, categorization,\n prioritization, SLAs, incident workflows, and escalation.\n * Confluence: Build a centralized knowledge base and integrate with JSM,\n enabling responders to act quickly.\n * Power Scripts\n :\n Optimize your service desk performance with workflows that prioritize\n critical incidents. Generate resolution reports using Jira data, including\n root causes and resolution steps.\n * Time to SLA\n :\n Differentiate SLAs by priority or request type, surface violations in real\n time, and generate SLA audit reports with just a few clicks.\n * Dashboard Hub Pro\n :\n Visualize incident response management data from Jira, JSM, and Opsgenie in a\n single dashboard for faster insights and decision making.\n * Comala Document Management\n \n + Comala Publishing\n :\n Automate reviews and approvals, then publish approved knowledge articles to a\n dedicated space for easy responder access.\n\nOutcome: The response team receives accurate incident data in real time, leading\nto faster incident resolution. The IT Operations Lead has easy access to\naccurate data in a comprehensive DORA dashboard and can generate reports in the\nblink of an eye.\n\n\n3. THIRD-PARTY RISK MANAGEMENT\n\nDORA regulations emphasize the need for financial institutions to monitor risks\nassociated with third-party ICT providers. Ensuring vendors comply with security\nand resilience standards is critical to maintaining regulatory compliance and\nsafeguarding operational stability.\n\nExample: Your bank uses a network of cloud service providers to power key\noperations. The Compliance Manager focuses on the regulatory burden of vendor\nassessments, while an IT Operations Lead needs visibility into how those vendors\nintegrate into and impact service delivery.\n\nChallenge: Financial institutions rely on third-party vendors for IT services.\nHowever, limited visibility makes it harder for Information Security personnel\nto monitor and manage vendor-related risks, creating potential compliance\nissues.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira/JSM: Standardize vendor onboarding with structured intake forms.\n Automatically create linked issues for security assessments and contract\n reviews.\n * Hedge\n :\n Create Jira-based risk registers to log, categorize, and track compliance\n risks across work items. Score risk metrics such as probability and impact to\n support qualitative and quantitative evaluations.\n * Assets & Inventory\n :\n Track third-party providers and their associated risks by linking them to\n Jira issues for incidents and risk events.\n * JXL\n :\n Visualize and manage escalated risks more effectively using a highly\n customizable spreadsheet-like interface in Jira. Track real-time priority,\n ownership, and status to support faster decision-making.\n\nOutcome: The Compliance Officer can verify due diligence and audit trails. The\nIT Operations teams can proactively monitor third-party SLAs and service impacts\nwithout switching between tools.\n\n\n4. BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING AND DISASTER RECOVERY\n\nDORA mandates that financial institutions establish and test robust business\ncontinuity plans (BCPs) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies to minimize\ndisruptions in the event of cyber incidents or system failures.\n\nExample: The Compliance Manager at your financial services firm tracks system\nuptime, incident reports, and disaster recovery drill outcomes across multiple\nlocations.\n\nChallenge: Many organizations lack centralized visibility into business\ncontinuity plans and disaster recovery processes, making it difficult for\nCompliance Managers to ensure compliance and readiness. Metrics like incident\nfrequency or system restoration times can be hard to interpret, especially if\nthe data is poorly visualized.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira: Create epics or issues for different types of resilience tests (e.g.,\n DR tests, stress tests, failover drills). Log failures, system impacts, or\n delayed responses as separate risk or incident issues.\n * Confluence: Document test results and resolution plans in a centralized\n location for clear visibility and audit readiness.\n * Dashboard Hub Pro\n :\n Visualize BC/DR test completion, outcomes, and trends over time with tailored\n DORA dashboards—customized for team tracking, audit readiness, or executive\n reporting.\n * Comala Document Management:\n \n Ensure stakeholders are notified of test results and approve the resolution\n plan, with all document activity logged for full audit traceability.\n\nOutcome: Dashboards provide executives with real-time insights for informed\ndecision-making, while Compliance Managers maintain traceable disaster recovery\ndrills and testing cycles aligned with regulatory requirements.\n\n\n5. AUDIT READINESS AND COMPLIANCE REPORTING\n\nRegular audits are an essential component of DORA compliance. Real-time access\nto compliance data simplifies audit preparation, minimizes audit disruption, and\nreduces the risk of non-compliance.\n\nExample: The Compliance Manager at a French insurance company is responsible for\nconducting quarterly internal audits to ensure preparedness for the\norganization’s annual regulatory review.\n\nChallenge: Manually gathering data from disconnected systems is time-consuming\nand error-prone, often leading to outdated information, inefficiencies, and\nincreased compliance risk.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira: Create Jira issues for each audit with custom fields for scope,\n objectives, business area, and regulatory framework (e.g., ISO, DORA, SOX).\n Use epics to group audits by year, quarter, or department.\n * Confluence: Store audit evidence, collaborate with comments and co-authoring,\n and document final findings, responses, and action plans.\n * Comala Document Management\n \n + Comala Publishing\n :\n Track all document activity, manage version-controlled procedures, automate\n policy updates, and restrict access to ensure a secure system.\n * Dashboard Hub Pro\n :\n Compile data from Jira, Confluence, and other ICT systems via APIs, and share\n secure, password-protected dashboards with auditors to stay organized and\n audit-ready.\n\nOutcome: Streamlined audit preparation saves the Compliance Manager hours of\nmanual work. Improved policy management and document control ensure data\nintegrity and version accuracy. Seamless and secure auditor access streamlines\nthe exchange of information and protects valuable data from unauthorized access.\n\n\n6. INFORMATION SHARING AND INCIDENT REPORTING\n\nDORA urges financial entities impacted by ICT incidents to submit timely and\ndetailed root-cause analysis reports to authorities. Open and extensive\ncollaboration with the authorities strengthens the resilience and stability of\nthe European financial system.\n\nExample: After the Service Desk resolves a critical incident, the Compliance\nOfficer shares the root-cause analysis that details how the underlying risks\nwere identified and mitigated.\n\nChallenge: Cross-functional coordination across teams and time zones slows down\nanalysis, while siloed documentation adds complexity and hinders knowledge\ntransfer, making accurate, timely incident reporting a challenge.\n\nSolution:\n\n 1. Jira/JSM: Implement structured workflows to guide and streamline every step\n of the incident response process.\n 2. Confluence: Integrate with Jira to create and link root cause analysis\n documentation to the relevant work item, ensuring full context and\n traceability.\n 3. Comala Document Management\n :\n Automatically apply context-specific workflows to documentation to ensure\n stakeholders collaborate, review, and approve.\n 4. Scaffolding Forms & Templates for Confluence\n :\n Automatically apply a root cause analysis template to Confluence pages to\n ensure information is captured consistently, accurately, and in the correct\n format.\n 5. Dashboard Hub Pro\n :\n Share secure, real-time dashboard views with regulators or export snapshots\n from specific time periods.\n\nOutcome: Compliance Officers can demonstrate regulatory responsiveness through\ntimely and accurate incident reports. Password protection bolsters the security\nof the reports and limits potential unauthorized access.\n\n\n7. DATA PROTECTION AND ACCESS CONTROL\n\nDORA requires strict, role-based access to sensitive compliance data to prevent\nbreaches and ensure audit integrity.\n\nExample: Compliance Managers must ensure and prove that critical documents like\nevidence logs and audit reports are only accessible by authorized personnel,\nsuch as auditors and legal teams.\n\nChallenge: Configuring and maintaining granular permissions to ensure only\nauthorized users can view or edit sensitive compliance content is tedious,\nespecially when spaces, projects, or workflows are shared across multiple teams.\n\nSolution:\n\n * Jira/JSM/Confluence: Assign and manage permissions based on user roles and\n responsibilities; every permission change or access event is logged.\n * Comala Document Management\n /Comala\n Publishing\n :\n Separate draft and approved documentation within Confluence spaces, applying\n strict access controls to each to ensure only authorized users can view or\n edit content based on its approval status.\n * Dashboard Hub Pro\n :\n Restrict dashboards with role-based permissions so IT admins, risk managers,\n and Compliance Managers see only the data relevant to their roles.\n Password-protect dashboards and securely share them with authorized external\n stakeholders as needed.\n\nOutcome: Reduced risk of unauthorized access, with Compliance Managers\nmaintaining complete control over sensitive documentation through role-based\npermissions, access tracking, and clearly separated draft and approved content.\n\n\nOVERCOMING THE LIMITATIONS OF JIRA AND CONFLUENCE FOR DORA COMPLIANCE\n\nAs you can see, continuous, modern compliance is possible with the right\nsoftware and the right controls. It’s even better to integrate these controls\ninto your existing tech stack for a seamless and truly integrated system.\n\nJira and Confluence provide solid starting points, but to move your DORA\ncompliance across the finish line, adding Appfire apps is the way to go.\n\n\nTIGHTER INTEGRATION, BETTER VISUALIZATION\n\nWhile Atlassian provides strong native integrations, there’s still room to\nimprove visibility and control across apps, especially when managing compliance.\nBy default, Jira dashboards don’t pull in data from Confluence, Opsgenie, Guard,\nor StatusPage.\n\nA fully connected, cross-platform experience isn’t available out of the box, and\nthe lack of native integration leaves teams managing fragmented data across\nmultiple systems, without a unified view for monitoring and oversight.\n\nAppfire helps close key gaps in the Atlassian ecosystem by enabling teams to\nconsolidate data from Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Opsgenie,\nBitbucket, and StatusPage into a single, dynamic dashboard. Structured review\nand approval workflows in Confluence make it easier to manage and monitor the\nstatus of policies, audit reports, and other compliance-critical documents—data\nthat can also be visualized within the dashboard.\n\nWith support for custom integrations via REST/API, you can surface metrics from\nnearly any system. These solutions extend Atlassian’s native capabilities,\nempowering you to build custom metrics, charts, and formulas that evolve with\nyour processes, delivering a complete, real-time view of your compliance\nposture.\n\n\nINTERNAL SHARING VS. EXTERNAL ACCESS\n\nJira and Confluence make it easy to collaborate and manage data within your\norganization, with built-in permissions to control who can view or edit content.\nHowever, sharing compliance data with board members or auditors requires an\nAtlassian account, which creates unnecessary friction and additional costs.\n\nThat’s where Appfire apps take things further. They enable secure, flexible\nsharing options like exporting dashboards and reports, generating\npassword-protected links, and sharing individual items without requiring\nexternal users to log in.\n\nYou can also streamline document reviews and approvals, track risks and projects\nmore effectively, and unify data from across your Atlassian tools—all while\nmaintaining strict access controls. This results in better collaboration, easier\ncompliance reporting, and complete confidence that sensitive data is only seen\nby the right people.\n\n\nTURN JIRA AND CONFLUENCE INTO A COMPLIANCE POWERHOUSE WITH APPFIRE APPS\n\nTogether, these apps help you create a centralized, transparent, and audit-ready\nenvironment, giving you deeper insight into your compliance posture with just a\nfew clicks.\n\nHowever, the capabilities go way beyond DORA compliance. By turning Jira and\nConfluence into a single source of truth, you empower multiple teams to access,\nshare, and act on critical data more efficiently and with greater confidence,\ndriving smarter decisions across the business.\n\nFor example,\n\n * DevOps and Engineering teams can track development cycle velocity and\n visualize deployment metrics more clearly.\n * Product managers can measure progress against roadmaps and timelines. HR\n teams can keep track of hiring and onboarding progress.\n * Project managers can visualize timelines, resource allocation, and task\n completion rates, to name a few. With clear data, they can identify\n bottlenecks and deliver on time.\n * Executive leadership can easily track KPIs and monitor strategic goals and\n overall company health.\n\nCurious to see how Appfire can help your business? POs have many different\nresponsibilities on their plate that highly depend on the context. They need to\nconsider the type of product and its lifecycle stage, as well as the people\ninvolved in the product development process. The more variables are in play, the\ntrickier it gets. Today, we will talk about various challenges of a Product\nOwner and suggest solutions. We hope they will help you avoid unnecessary\nfailures and make apt decisions to remedy the situation.\n\nRecommended reading: Project Manager vs. Product Manager vs. Product Owner\n\n\n\nCHALLENGE #1: STAKEHOLDERS MANAGEMENT\n\nAs a Product Owner, your primary responsibility is to maximize the product’s\nvalue. But that responsibility requires a lot of cooperation with other teams,\ncustomers, and management. Therefore, you will often need to align several\nstakeholders to make decisions and converge on a single shared understanding of\nthe product. In short: many people, different views and opinions, and you—the\nProduct Owner—who needs to make something clever out of it.\n\n\nGET COMFORTABLE WITH SAYING “NO”\n\nFirst, learn to say “No.” Your job involves making choices, so you should be\nable to decide which idea is worth pursuing and which one is not (or at least\nnot in the coming sprints). Standing your ground and keeping in mind that you\ncannot please everyone is not easy but necessary. Besides, you would probably\nprefer to initiate ideas rather than to be someone who constantly agrees to what\nother stakeholders say.\n\n\nGROUP YOUR STAKEHOLDERS\n\nSecond, recognize which stakeholders are more important than the others. The\n“more important ones” means those stakeholders who are in power to influence\nyour work, or are very interested in it. This approach will help you reduce the\n“noise” and focus on those individuals whom you need to keep on the same page.\nIf you are new to the organization, you may draw Mendelow’s Matrix to group your\nstakeholders visually.\n\n1-stakeholders-management-mendelow-matrix 1.jpg\n\n\nA quick guide to how to read the matrix:\n\n * A) High power, low interest (keep satisfied). Aim to put enough effort to\n keep those stakeholders satisfied, but no need to overdo it.\n * B) High power, high interest (manage closely). Aim to become fully engaged\n with these people; do your best to satisfy them.\n * C) Low power, low interest (monitor). There is no need for excessive\n communication; keep an eye on them as their levels of interest or power could\n change (i.e., these stakeholders might suddenly move between quadrants).\n * D) Low power, high interest (keep informed). Keep those people well-informed;\n check-up on and talk to them to make sure there are no significant issues\n that could arise. This group of stakeholders can help you indicate any areas\n that could be improved or deserve attention.\n\n\nCHALLENGE #2: DISTRIBUTED TEAMS\n\nOver the past few years, remote work has become equally a trend and a necessity.\nNowadays, agile teams work from different locations spread across the country\n(or even a globe), which often leaves a Product Owner working separately from\nhis team. And although organizations generally have adapted to the remote mode\nof work pretty well, the separation of team members still can be a source of\nchallenges for a Product Owner.\n\nAlso, virtual contact makes it more difficult for a PO to present and explain\ntheir ideas. Certainly, there are online tools for visual communication (e.g.,\nfor drawing and moving sticky notes on a virtual board), but they cannot replace\nface-to-face interactions.\n\nConsequently, Product Owners could face a lack of trust and feedback from the\nteam, miscommunication, misalignment, low engagement, and slow progress. After\nall, there is a reason why the Agile Manifesto\n states that “the most\nefficient and effective method of conveying information to and within\na development team is a face-to-face conversation.”\n\n\nBRING THE AGILE TEAM TOGETHER\n\nIf you work for a remote-friendly company, forcing people to work on-site is not\nan option. But it is still possible for you to connect with your co-workers in\nperson. As part of their onboarding process, many organizations recommend new\nemployees spend some time in the office (if possible), to get to know the people\nand soak in the company culture. Also, they encourage remote workers to work\non-site once in a while.\n\nIf these two options do not apply to your situation, you can make sure you\neffectively use remote working tools (e.g., video calls). For the best\nengagement, ask your teammates to turn on their cameras and share their screens.\nFor instance, sharing your screen when talking about backlog will help your team\nfollow what you are saying.\n\n2-challenges-of-product-owner-big-picture-board 1.jpg\n\n\nBigPicture Board module. Left side: Task cards and cross-team dependencies.\nRight side: Backlog. \n\nAdditionally, remote-friendly project management software\n with features such\nas @mention  and priority assignment will let you not only track progress, but\nalso ensure greater transparency and accountability within the team.\n\n\nCHALLENGE #3: (OVER)WORKING WITH MULTIPLE SCRUM TEAMS\n\nProduct Owners often work on several product features, which means they act as\nPOs in more than one team. As a result, they often lack time to devote enough\nattention to product discovery, strategic work, and the backlog. Overworked POs\nare often unable to address their team’s questions promptly and slow down the\ndevelopment process.\n\n3-challenges-of-product-owner-scrum-team-roles 1.jpg\n\n\nThe state of overwork can also be a repercussion of consecutive meetings, poor\ncompany culture (bureaucracy), and a team that misunderstands the role of a PO\nand the idea of product ownership.\n\n\nCLOSER COLLABORATION WITH THE SCRUM MASTER\n\nA large portion of the PO work requires collaboration with other Scrum Team\nmembers. It is essential that each member fully understands their role to make\nthe most of their collaboration. Collaboration is especially important for\nProduct Owners and Scrum Masters (SMs) who work in tandem to create an efficient\nagile environment. These two roles have a few skill sets that overlap, which\nmeans that PO and SM can collaborate comfortably as peers. They also share the\nsame goal, which is creating a valuable product through Agile methodologies.\n\n4-challenges-of-product-owner-product-owner-scrum-master-cooperation 1.jpg\n\n\nTherefore, the Product Owner and Scrum Master should collaborate closely in\nseveral areas, including:\n\n * Backlog refinement and management. A product backlog\n    is the Product Owner’s responsibility. The\n Scrum Master can support PO with backlog refinement and finding the best\n techniques for backlog management. When the product backlog is ready, the\n Scrum Master explains to the Developers what they are going to work on and\n deliver in the coming sprint (or sprints).\n * Team communication and project goals. Scrum Master’s responsibility is to\n ensure the team understands the sprint goal\n ,\n objectives, and scope. Good communication, clear goals, and understanding of\n the product requirements\n    will\n reduce interrupts and enable you to focus on your work better.\n\n\nCHALLENGE #4: AD HOC REQUESTS\n\nAd hoc requests are unscheduled and unexpected. They can result from an\nunforeseen obstacle or issue (error, miscommunication), and their completion is\npretty urgent. Usually, you will end up deviating from your existing schedule\nand temporarily shifting your focus elsewhere. What is more, completion of an ad\nhoc request may involve someone else from your team. In such a case, depending\non the request complexity, this person may fail to complete their sprint tasks\non time.\n\n\nASSESS AD HOC REQUESTS\n\nAd hoc requests are an issue because they typically do not lessen the workload\nof the person who is supposed to handle it. Quite the contrary. All the workload\nplanned for the sprint remains unchanged. Plus, some ad hoc requests can be\ntricky—a seemingly simple half-an-hour task may turn into a full-day effort.\nThat is why it is so important to assess the incoming ad hoc requests in terms\nof urgency, risk, and complexity.\n\nYou will need to consider the consequences of postponing or rejecting the ad hoc\nrequest, negotiate the deadline, and find out what the requesting person exactly\nexpects. Through your assessment process and communication with the requesting\nstakeholder, it may turn out that the ad hoc task is not that urgent after all.\n\n\nLOG ALL AD HOC REQUESTS\n\nWhen you accept the ad hoc request, you should absolutely log it into product\nmanagement software . In case something goes\nwrong with the sprint due to the said request, it will be difficult for you to\nprove transparency or accountability. Logging allows you to have\na bird’s-eye-view of everyone’s tasks and keep your finger on your team’s pulse.\nMoreover, when you add an additional task to the current sprint, you will also\nneed to decide which other tasks to remove to maintain an equal team workload.\n\n\nCHALLENGE #5: BACKLOG PRIORITIZATION\n\nIn the Scrum Guide, you will find what a Product Backlog is (an ordered list of\nwhat is needed to improve the product) and who is responsible for it (a Product\nOwner). What is missing is the how (how the Product Owner is supposed to\nmaximize the value of an ordered list). Thus, the backlog prioritization often\nadds to challenges of the Product Owner and many of them struggle to find the\nright approach to fulfill their mission. And the mission becomes even more\nchallenging when the PO is surrounded by high-priority items.\n\n\nUSER STORY MAPPING\n\nThere are many approaches to backlog prioritization\n, but the one we would like to suggest is\nthe user story mapping . It is a very simple\ntechnique that allows talking about the user’s journey through your product. You\ncan create a story map to plot the experience for a new product or for an\nexisting product, and at any point in the product development process.\n\n\n\nStory mapping helps to focus on the big picture (!) instead of the irrelevant\nfeatures that will not get you closer to your goals. As such, it makes it clear\nwhat is essential to provide a full experience for the users at a given moment.\nIn this situation, prioritization takes place naturally.\n\nHowever, what is important to keep in mind is that stakeholders might have\ndifferent views on what is a “priority.” So again, you face a neverending\nconundrum of balancing stakeholders’ wishes and users’ needs. But what you\nshould keep in mind is that not all the wishes reflect the real user’s needs,\nand thus, they will have no real business value.\n\nOne way to go about this is by focusing on the outcomes. A series of simple\nquestions can help you sort user needs from the stakeholders’ wishes. Start with\n“why” and proceed with “what” and “who.”\n\n * Why is this problem important for the users?\n * What is the problem you want to solve?\n * What is the objective of this feature?\n * Who will benefit from this feature?\n\nAnswers to these questions will help you decide what to build and in what order\n(priority).\n\n\nDEFINING REQUIREMENTS\n\nWhen you face backlog-related challenges as a Product Owner, turn to your Scrum\nMaster to help you define product requirements. SM will teach you how to break\nrequirements down into small increments that, despite the size, would maintain\ntheir functional form. Those incremental functionalities must be small enough to\nmake it possible for your Developers to deliver them in one Sprint. But big and\nmeaningful (functional) enough to hold value for business and customers. Scrum\nMaster can also teach you how to divide and group large requirements (e.g., into\nEpics).","featuredImage":"https://appfire-production.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/967aa88a7f8ce8d26950fda7d6c6e69e.jpg","id":"blog-post_u0fg3v7lusxd6tfum5uwjy3y","products":["BigPicture"],"publishedAt":"2026-04-23T13:35:35.997Z","slug":"challenges-of-product-owner","solutions":[],"title":"5 biggest challenges of a Product Owner","topics":["Project Management","Resource management","Jira"]},"highlight":{},"highlights":[],"text_match":100,"text_match_info":{"best_field_score":"0","best_field_weight":12,"fields_matched":4,"score":"100","tokens_matched":0}},{"document":{"author":"Appfire","collection_type":"blog-post","description":"Bolo Software, Danish maker of Confluence publishing apps, is now part of the\nAppfire family\n\nWe are excited to announce the acquisition of Bolo Software, Atlassian Gold\nMarketplace Partner and creator of LaTeX Math\n,\nalong with other Bolo publishing apps such as Numbered Captions and Easy\nNumbered Headings that make it easy for users to create and share content in\nConfluence.\n\nBolo’s founder and proven technical leader, Jason Boileau, will join Appfire’s\nteam as a Chief Product Architect.
